Disappointed - Cooktop lasted 7 months
JRA129
12/3/2019
I bought all new Kitchenaid appliances in April (Fridge, Micro/Oven Combo and Induction cooktop) and these appliances were not cheap. I was loving my cooktop until the boost feature blew out the board ... within 7 months. I had to wait almost a week for the appointed appliance folks to come look at it (didn't even touch it when they came to 'look at it' but the repairman told us they knew exactly what it was because they had replaced a number of those boards) and then had to wait another week for them to install the new board. This, of course, was when I was trying to cook Thanksgiving dinner for my family - without a cooktop ... for almost 2 weeks! So very disappointed. Now, I am hesitant to use the boost feature and wanting to extend the warranty on all of these appliances for life ... at no charge. So, below I rate this appliance accordingly because I need a cooktop that will not fail.

Installation Issue
HaysLP
11/10/2019
Finally installed and working as expected. The markings in the glass for the "burners" are hard to see in low light and for us who have aging eyes.
Also the unit requires a special glue to install with granite or quartz countertops. I don't recall seeing this anywhere in the literature. Since this is a high end appliance one would expect that it would be installed on stone surfaces. It was annoying that the glue would not be included. I called the Kitchenaid help line and the person handling the call knew nothing about installation and could only read from the installation guide. I had to tell her where to look for the information on the installation process with stone.
She offered no help and said i should order the glue form Kitchenaid. It turns out the tube of glue costs over $100 if getting from Kitchenaid. I went to Home depot and got an alternative for under $10

Merci.

I just had this installed. We just moved into a new house and i always wanted a gas cooktop. I believed I could control the flame to simmer soups and stews where the glass electric top i had in my other house made simmering difficult. But i learned gas cooktops really throw off the heat into the room making our house hotter in the summer, that didn't sound good living in the south. The salesman showed me the induction top and i was sold. it delivers as promised and it has a simmer function that actually works. Super fast heating and almost instantaneous.
I would have given a 5 star but it does something i wasn't ready for. i set an empty cake pan on it while i was cleaning the kitchen and the power came on! A little too sensitive on the touch controls?

$1700 PIECE OF GARBAGE (G-rated version)

I purchased this in September of 2018 and it wasn't delivered until 10/4. The largest burner module has gone out twice in the year that I've owned it. The first time it was out for 13 days. NOW it's been out since 8/3 (roughly 30 days) and the part is back-ordered until the end of September. Best Buy suggested asking if they'd buy it back as it's obviously a "lemon." When I called kitchenaid they very politely told me they only do that if it's unrepairable. IF the part comes in and is fixed by the end of September it will be roughly 60 days it's been broken. I've owned it for a year and between this episode and the first one the stove top has been broken 20 PERCENT of the time!!!! Not convenient at all when you have a family with kids to feed!

Great cooktop... when it works
Erin122
7/15/2019
We purchased this cooktop two months ago. It boils water very quickly, is easy to operate and looks great in our kitchen. It is a great appliance for anyone with kids as we are not worried about gas or electric burners. We were very happy with the appliance originally.
A month into our purchase, the cooktop abruptly stopped working mid-supper. A repair person attended our house and advised that the unit required a new controller. We have been without the cooktop for three weeks now - an inconvenience to say the least. Fortunately, we purchased the extended warranty so the repair will be covered. The extreme inconvenience of not having our brand new cooktop is disappointing given the price we paid for a brand new induction cooktop.
We have attempted to "chat" with Kitchenaid twice about the issue but have not received any response as to whether our inconvenience will be addressed.
Will not be purchasing KitchenAid in the future but would recommend induction-style cooktops.

KICU509XBL Induction Cooktop
Katf2
7/10/2019
I bought an induction cooktop when I purchased my home the end of 2014. Loved it - unfortunately I believe the main circuit board blew and because of the cost of repair we chose to purchase a new one. I bought the KICU509xbl in June and less than 2 weeks after installation it broke. The main board went out - flashing 47. The repair people came out the next day and ordered a new part. That was on 6/3/19. Still waiting for part to arrive. After reading reviews on line it appears that the flashing 47 is a common problem. I guess I should have read them before purchasing a new one. Sorry - loved my stove but don't look forward to continuing issues and no stove while I'm waiting for repairs. Due to these circumstances I gave bad marks on quality, value and design.

We like the product, but the very first time we used it, the heating panel blew up. It took us about 2 weeks to get it fixed. The service team was unclear about what happened, perhaps some abnormal flaw in the circuitry. The entire circuitry panel was replaced. It is now fixed and we love the performance in the last couple weeks.

One of the worst things in my life
Schumi
7/4/2019
Worst purchase i have ever made in my life. This cooktop is horrific. The burners shut off for a myriad of reasons. If the pans arent on the burners, just right, it shuts off. If you lift a pan to remove an item such as a pancake, it shuts off. If you lift a pan to reduce the heat, it shuts off. If you place a metal object anywhere near an unused burner, it shuts off. Sometimes it just shuts off for seemingly no reason. Then to make matters worse, once it shuts down it starts an incessant beeping that wont stop until you go through a series of tasks that creates more beeps until the function is restored. It has ruined countless meals. I despise this more than anything I have ever purchased. We paid so much for it, I cant bring myself to scrap it. I cant believe this was designed and brought to market as an acceptable configuration. Thankfully, I only use this on the weekends for 3 months of the year. I will never buy another Kitchenaid product in my life.

Brought in 2017 have had the heating element fail 4 times since. They've refused to replace with a different model. For such an expensive unit I am disappointed to say the least. I will not buy kitchen aide again only because of their failure to make it right by switching it out with another model as requested after the unit failed so many times. I can only guess when it will fail the next time as I'm sure it will....maybe on Thanksgiving like it did last year

I made the switch to induction cooking and really enjoy how responsive it is. An added bonus is that the cooktop is easier to clean than a gas cooktop. The only downside is the need to have induction-compatible cookware. Much of my old stuff didn't work.

First time use to boil water Error 47 Code

F47 error THREE TIMES
dissapointedx3
5/23/2019
Purchased fall 2018, blew up (F47) in February 2019.
Repaired (I took 2 days off work, as apparently a tech has to come out and verify that it isn't working before they order parts).
1 week later it blew again (F47). Took 3 days off work this time as they didn't show up for one of their appointments. Was told by tech that I had to get my electrician to re-do all the connections and test voltage and amperage at all connection points & write a report or my warranty would be voided. $200 bill and another day off.
Lasted 2 months and it blew (you guessed it, F47) again. This time right before the long weekend. Had to get my electrician to temp wire in a regular stand up range so we could feed our 2 dozen guests. Another day off and another $200 electrician bill. Still waiting for tech to come to verify it's not working.
Summary:
9 days off work ($1800), many spoiled meals ($150), take-out food expenses ($400), $400 in electrician's bills, and countless inconvenience... and I still don't have a cooktop that is working. Total invested $2200 for cooktop, $2750 in lost wages and other expenses.
At this point I have paid for the cooktop twice+...
But according to KitchenAid... F47 is not a known issue...

I've had to call the KitchenAid support service maybe 4 times in the last 8 months. Sometimes they replace the entire panel, sometimes partial. Today the F47 error is blinking on two of those cooktops.
Something just keep tripping it.
There is no clarity in terms of what is causing this issue.
The repair team now knows me by name and they show up and make it work and then the F47 error shows up shortly thereafter within a matter of weeks. Will try and avoid the large cooktop on right to see if that helps.

We bought this unit 2 years ago with a wall oven and both have failed. Thankfully the oven just needed a thermal fuse replaced. The cooktop cost $1000 to repair. It worked for 20 minutes and now it has blown again. It's the exact same issue many others are talking about. VERY disappointed. We are now looking at just replacing with another, more reliable brand. Do not buy.

I have had this product for 3 months... It is being replaced for the third time with the same error code F47 and KitchenAid will not give the authorization to BestBuy to let us return the product. Three units! All with the same error code! They expect me to take off work every month for a new service call for the same problem until my warranty period expires... at which time it will become my expense to pay for this piece of junk product. $1800 is a lot of money to spend on a product that has caused me so much frustration and having to deal with a company that is not responsive to customers concerns. They took my money, gave me a useless product and now they won't take it back and let me have my money back to buy a stove that actually works. It's basically a scam. This whole process has been so ludicrous - I am beyond dissatisfied, I am disgusted with this company and this product. Will NEVER buy KitchenAid again!!

I brought this on Jan 2018. On Aug 2018, right side of cooktop stopped working and got F47 error code for the first time. Had it repair by replacing the control board. Today, it broke again with exact same error. I called customer service and was told that the reparation will cost $650 for part and $100 for labour. No thanks! I don't want to take risk and see this error code again 6 months later. I'm disappointed and will not buy KitchenAid cooktop again.

Just had this installed in our new kitchen. Third time using it last night and there was a large popping sound and then F47 error code. I admit I did a ton of research and I was aware of this issue but I thought for the price of the unit, those errors are probably very rare. I guess I was wrong. Waiting for the service people to tell me I will need a new part that will probably take another month to get in and blah blah blah. I can already tell that I will regret not going with another brand.

Have used my new cooktop about two weeks now and I'm very pleased with it. Still learning how to use the induction method of heating and it seems to be everything it is advertised as being. Heats up quickly. Love the smooth top which makes it very easy to clean. My previous cooktop had a frame around the edges and it made it difficult to clean. Easy installation. One one con is that in dimmer lighting, it is difficult to see the outline of each burner. Also, adjusting the temperature setting for a burner requires first touching the individual control for that burner and then another place to adjust the temperature setting. WOuld be easier to adjust the temp if you only had to do one input instead of two. Picky, but still..... The cooktop includes a timer, but it only works for an active burner. If you just want to time something else, you need a separate timer. i.e. if you want to time an interval for something to sit after cooking before eating etc. Overall, a great purchase. Oh, and I would rather have blue LED indicators instead of the red. uff-da

Do NOT buy this cooktop or KitchenAid appliances
Lmo0913
10/10/2018
We have this induction cooktop, as well as a KitchenAid refrigerator and a KitchenAid wall oven. All three appliances are very problematic, with two elements on the induction cooktop shorting out so now I can only use half of it.
Also, when it did work, I found that this cooktop was much noisier than any other induction cooktop that I've used, with an incessant clicking sound.
As well, the refrigerator keeps shutting off by itself and the wall oven doesn't hold a set temperature. It's so disappointing that these are supposedly top of the line applicances but KitchenAid refuses to stand behind their products.
Please buy another brand!

We purchased a whole set off Kitchenaid appliances for a complete renovation and are so disappointed. We have this induction stove top that is 13 months old and like other reviews, we have the code F47 which is the main board having to be replaced. The part may be covered but we have to pay $400 for installation of the new part. We were told by the repairman that this is a common issue on the Kitchenaid induction and happens frequently. Kitchenaid should fix this problem or not sell this product.

Error F47
Francisco Gaviria
9/27/2018
I Bougth in Colombia the induction cooktop KiCU 509 SSX00 in May last year but I set it up in the first days of september 2017. Last week when I was going to start using the big counter the general fuse of the apartment turned off and when I replace it to on the rigth side of the display appeared blinking the failure F47. I requested the technical service an the technician tells me that I have to replace the total induction control module because those failure indicates a various damages in any electrical board.
As the replacement of that piece is too expensive in my country allmost $ Us 600 plus 19% tax andthe labor replacemet. I ask you if it is tru that i have to change the total or just change the rigth control module W10701796.
In the manual failure says that could be a fuse, but when the technisian replace the fuse and restart the stove the general apartment turn off.
I will expect your indications

We had both right burners stop working twice with an F47 error code. We replaced the power boards on these at about $150 cost to us. When it happened the third time, kitchenaid replaced the entire unit for free which was great. That was today. The second time we used this new cooktop today we have F47 again on right two burners. How can a $2k unit fail like this four times?

We just remodeled our kitchen and chose all KitchenAid appliances. This cooktop looks great and works awesome. We replaced a gas cooktop so I was worried I was going to be stepping backwards with this bujt purchased it primarily for safety reasons as my wife has Alzheimer's and gas was proving to be a bit dangerous. I have been thoroughly pleased with how well this unit works and at this point would be comfortable in saying it is superior to gas.
