3 years ago I remodeled my kitchen and purchased new appliances. The microwave has been given me problems as soon as it hit the 3 year mark. It seems the door sensor is a known issue, but yet we must pay for the labor to fix the issue? Why advertise the 10 year, limited warranty if this a known problem? I've had other brands last longer and I regret this purchase. Customer service advised me I will have to pay for labor. Never again.

We bought this unit 4 years ago and replaced the door switch mechanism a year and a half ago. Our Maytag repair person knew exactly what was wrong and came with the part so obviously this is a known issue. Already it is performing the same way it broke last time. What must be done to permanently correct this issue. No we are not slamming the door!!!

Sad to read so many reviews that sound like I wrote them. Love the microwave-beautiful, matches the oven! Bought 3/2016 and it no longer heats as of 5/2019. Called Maytag and of course, just as much to fix as replace. And, like others ... the old, ugly micro worked fine. My new, pretty one is already broken.

The door sensor worked intermittently for a few months. I would have to close the door several times to get it to work. I've noticed several other people have had this exact same problem. Evidently, this is something the '10 year warranty' does not cover. I bought this microwave as part of a four piece set, stove, microwave, refrigerator and dishwasher. I did not expect the microwave to be a lemon. I wish I had read the reviews first.

Very disappointed. After about a year the sensor on this microwave stopped working. It would work intermittently, sometimes it was just fine, most other times you had to open and close the door continuously until the sensor worked. Less than 3 years old and the sensor won't work at all now, a believe it may have broken. As with other reviewers, find another microwave and stay clear of this one. Maytag's answer to their faulty product is for you to hire an outside service tech, pay for a diagnosis and, if it can be fixed, pay for the service to replace the part. At that point I would be paying more for a part than for another microwave. It is shameful.

Less than 2 years, and I have to go out get another microwave tomorrow. This one fried the electrical socket (see photos). The plastic door hinge sensors broke. Light stays on, or unit will not come on at all. BUYER BEWARE! This is Model no. MMv4205ds. Steer clear of it!

Bought a matching set of Maytag products specifically for the 10 year warranty. Less than 2 years and now we can't use our microwave because it won't recognize the door has been opened. It won't start because it wants you to open the door and it won't go away. Also, warranty is useless with this issue.

I bought this at Lowes 1/25/17. Less than 2 years and door switch is bad. Paid $300, Costs $150-$180 to repair and many people said repaired switch also went bad within a year or so. Problem has been going on for at least 2 years.

I purchased this microwave after my last one lasted 13 years, I have had this one approximately 2 years at the most, I started having the same problem with messages about the door not being closed months ago, open it, close it and it would work. Now the open/close door message won't go away and so the microwave will not run, the light inside wants to stay on constantly, so we had to unplug it. Very disappointed. Paid enough for it that I would have never dreamed we would be having these issues, and it seems from other comments other are having the same type issues.

We've battled the door light for over a year now. It goes in spurts. Works well for a couple months then fails badly. After several attempts, sometimes up tp 10 times, it will give in and work. Pretty disappionted.

Previous experience with Maytag was phenomenal-fridge washer dryer microwaves lasted 10 years or more. Upgraded kitchen last year, matching Maytag appliances. Past warranty and getting door open message. Beginning to wonder if the rest of my Maytags will develop chronic problems. Would not recommend purchasing any Maytag points at this point.

Looks nice. Works great when it works. We too have been hit with open/close door problem that we dealt with for a while. We used to be able to open and close door a few times until the microwave would start. Now it doesn't work at all no matter how many times you open/close the door. This is a systemic problem with this microwave if you search around the internet. Do not go through the trouble of putting this in your home. It will only be a matter of time (just past warranty in our case) when the door issues start. My previous microwave was 15 years old and still worked but was replaced for an updated look.

We purchased the Maytag kitchen suite. We bought the refrigerator, stove, microwave, and dishasher. We did a major home remodel, so installed the appliances at different times. The microwave was the last to be installed which was less than a year ago (December 2017). An error sensor showed up about the door to open and close it. We had this error one time and after opening and closing the door a couple of times the microwave is now completely dead. We paid good money for a good product. VERY UNHAPPY.

We bought a house 9 months ago and were so thrilled that it came with a new set of Maytag appliances. The microwave, however is defective and is extremely frustrating! It constantly says to open and close door and then will not start. Sometimes it doesn't say anything at all and won't start. Sometimes it works. It's very inconvenient when I need to warm something up quick and I can't. Literally have had my kids cry over it. Something needs to be made right here. This is a defective product.

Bought it based on Lowes salesperson recommendation, Maytag commercials, and looks. It sure is a pretty wallhanger. Started having the door issues in the first few months but I didn't think to get warranty support right away. Now it's completely dead and Maytag is sticking to the one year warranty on what they KNOW is a defective design. My money goes elsewhere next time.

I did much research to identify a good microwave and this one had fabulous reviews and features. My beautiful microwave was installed 12/2015. And I loved it until a few months ago. Now I'm having the same problem as many other owners. When I open the door and the interior light doesn't come on, it doesn't work. The display says "Ck Power." I keep trying over and over and eventually (minutes or days later) it works.
I am the ONLY user and it has been used on average 2-3 times a week just to reheat something for a few minutes. I'm sad to say that all those fabulous reviews were spot on as along as the appliance was working. But clearly Maytag has an issue that ultimately shows up in this product. It appears sooner for heavy users and later for light users.
I am extremely disappointed that such a nice appliance has been rendered useless after such little use. Not only that, I'm now extremely hesitant to purchase, or recommend, any Maytag appliance that has gotten good reviews.

Bought this microwave and all other matching appliances when I redid our kitchen about 18 months ago. The microwave gets moderate use with about 3-5 times a week of being used. We started getting the door sensor code and I noticed if you lift the door while closing the door it would work. We are at the point now that the latch broke and it will not work at all. We called customer service and they told us that it's $120 just to look at it. Very unhappy that it stopped working in such little time and Ive got to remove it to get another. Long time purchaser of Maytag products and don't think I'll continue after this.

I purchased this microwave along with all my appliances to match. Shortly after having it the microwave stopped working. I had 2 different service people come out (first one never ordered the part so they cancelled the order). They replaced the door interlock system and something else.
In the beginning of this month,(and within 2 years of the same issue) I tried to make popcorn before leaving for work. It did not pop well and thought it was something I did. Between the time I left and the time my family came downstairs the microwave had turned on by itself. I have no idea how long it was on (I am sure I turned it off because I took the stuff out). THIS COULD HAVE BURNED MY HOUSE DOWN. It would not turn off. My family member had to unplug it from the wall. I came home and plugged it in to find the same thing, was on and would not shut off. I then unplugged it again then heard a small snap then the door would not close.
I had a service person come out. He took the black piece off the top and the program board off, he also stuck a screw driver in the door switch and popped it back so the door would then close and he stated that the door switches are bad and he confirmed that he was unable to turn it off. He also stated that the fuse has now blown out (tripping my circuit breaker). He stated that he would need to order parts and come back. (another day off for a part that was fixed not that long ago).
I was offered a few options
1) To again fix it at no charge ( I do not feel safe with this even if it is fixed)
2) They can buy it back for $242
or
3) Exchange for a current product up to $369 value but I will need to pay $100 administration fee.
I would like to opt for #3. I feel this is a safety hazard and I should not have to pay any Administration charges.
Apparently this is not the first time this has happened and honestly it is quite scary.

I have had problems with the "open/close" door signal since 2015. It is a great microwave otherwise but very frustrating not being able to depend on it working. I purchased in 2014, so it is out of warranty ...however after reading other reviews on this model it appears that it has an engineering defect. A phone call to Maytag did not result in an offer to fix a defective part.
On a side note, a Maytag dishwasher purchased at the same time has had 2 repairs in 2 years. I am the only user and have had great luck with previous appliances. Maytag is not as dependable as it used To be!

I bought this microwave a year and a half ago. All of a sudden it stopped heating our food. Everything else works, but once the heating cycle is done, our food is still cold. I called the warranty company and they stated it would cost $99 just to have someone come and tell me what she already knows is wrong. Then I have to pay for labor to have someone replace the magnetron. This is not the most expensive microwave, but its also not the cheapest. I've had cheaper microwaves last longer. Very frustrating considering it has a 10 year warranty. That only covers two items. The one year warranty covers cosmetic items as well. Other than that, you're stuck. I think I'm better off buying another microwave.

The previous homeowner brought and installed a set of, Microwave, Stove and dishwasher before we closed our house. The microwave is good for about 6 months, after that if the door light it not on when I open the door the microwave will not start. And now 1 years later the microwave is completely out of order. No power nothing show up on the control panel. Also the fan sound it OK if I use High, can't stand the sound when use medium and low.

I tried to read all the reviews before purchasing a microwave , price vs quality was the deciding factor , after receiving this , I admired the nice stainless look and bigger plate , after installation I was a bit disappointed , my old whirlpool was a much more solid unit , in order of faults , the fan is very loud , why the musical medley when shutting off when a mild beep was sufficient , the door started screeching when opening or closing and the light does not always come on immediately when opening the door . all and all its about what I expected , I hope it last 16 years like my last one did , umm right ...

Purchased this microwave 3 years ago and it has been rock solid. Still looks and works the same as it did the day we installed it. Has enough features for all our needs without clustering the display options with buttons we would never use.
One big concern for us is the timer sound, if your not standing right beside the microwave when the timer ends you will not hear the sound. We have researched the manual and have not found where there is any ability to turn the sound up, only on/off.

I've experienced a similar issue as many others who've left reviews. We've had it for almost 2 years and the screen says that the door is open (but is not) and won't allow for any function, as it continues to read that the door is open. It miraculously went back to normal the next day, but a couple weeks later, it happened again. We only use our microwave a couple times a week, so it's disappointing to be running into issues already.

After one year the microwave door message intermittently began to display. The manual does not address correction of this problem. Now, four months later the problem occurs with regularity. We have had multiple microwaves over the past 48 years and have never had a problem. We are very disappointed that Maytag would sell such a faulty product.

I bought this microwave back in March 2017 and here I am today with a microwave I am unable to use. I have the issue with the open/close door not being able to start the microwave along with another issue where everytime I close the door, the fan runs making this unit completely unusable. For $300, I expected much better quality from a brand such as Maytag. I currently have an unplugged microwave sitting above my stove and I wish I saw these reviews about the issues prior.

We have had this for 2 years, the electronics have started acting up lately. The chime for removal of the item goes off when you've already removed the item for example. Now it has the dreaded Open/Close Door error warning. We paid over 300.00 for this microwave and if it is going to cost over 100.00 to fix it that is crazy. The cheapo microwave we had before lasted 9 years before the plastic door handle broke. I had much better hopes for the maytag.

I bought this about two years ago and it was working fine until the infamous "open door" issue came up. The 10-year warranty is very misleading because it only covers parts and you still have to pay for labor which would be a couple of hundred dollars - the unit sells for under $200 so you're almost better off just buying a new unit instead. I have an old panasonic microwave from college which is over 20 years old and works with no problem but this Maytag couldn't even last 2 years. The quality is very shoddy and it is well-known as a simple google search will show many instances of this same problem. I do not recommend any MayTag appliances for this reason.

I bought this microwave and after 1 year it stopped spinning. The 10 year warrant is a joker. I called and was told it is not under warranty. So I eventually called a service man to take a look and found out that the Control board is defective. Wow, so the control board is only good for a year? Now deciding to buy another Microwave or repair because the cost to repair will be almost the same to buy a new one.

If you are expecting the fan on this "over-the-range" microwave oven to clear steam and smoke while cooking on an oven range below, beware: Even on the "high" setting, the over-the-range microwave fan is useless. It draws absolutely no steam or smoke from dishes being cooked on a stovetop over which it may be installed.

We had this unit for less than 2 years and recently started getting the door open/closed sensor issue that a lot of other reviews are mentioning. Clearly this is a common problem and should be addressed by the manufacturer. After about a month of dealing with the door sensor now the unit completely shut down and will not power on. I'm not going to bother dealing with the manufacturer as I know in the end I'll have to spend at least half of what a new one is worth for them to fix a manufacturing defect. Instead I'm switching brands and won't buy another Maytag product.

Purchased microwave about 10 months ago,very concerned about open/close door sensor issue.This has happened on several occasions resulting in microwave not working for a period of time,was informed by someone else who owns same model that this happens if door is open while operating and failing to hit cancel option.Need more directive on this seeing that many of the reviews are conveying the same problem.

I was very happy with this microwave until it stopped heating after a little over a year of use. I purchased it and had it installed last May and now I have to spend a day waiting for a repair person and pay a minimum of over a hundred dollars just to have it looked at. I don't think I should have to purchase a new microwave after 15 months but my repair bill will probably behalf of what a new one would be. Very frustrated!

Got this 1.5 years ago first the open door sensor stopped working periodically that went on for about a month . Had to keep opening and closing the door to get it to work and now doesn't work at all ! Very disappointed in the workmanship of this product. The cost of a repair is so high better to purchase a new one. Had a microwave from JC Penny for 28 years should have kept it .
