I've had the stackable pair for 5 years now, have a husband in construction and three small boys, so you can imagine what goes in there. Clothes always come out clean and never had a problem with the machine. My laundry room is also a 6x3.5sq foot space, so it stacks in there perfectly.

Washer lasted 3 years. Whirlpool does not stand behind this product. Customer service was not helpful and didn't really care that their product had broken down. Poorly made and overpriced. Often had to wash clothes twice, display difficult to read and broke down to the point it was more expensive to repair than buy another one - which I did, but another brand.

One big problem . . .
PhotoJack45
5/21/2019
This machine does a good job of washing the clothes and has plenty of features. However, it suffers from a defect common to front load washers - it it very susceptible to mold, mildew, and crud buildup problems. The rubber door gasket is not internally watertight and allows moisture into the frame around the door. If you forget to leave the door open when the machine is not in use, a mildew odor builds up very quickly. Also, crud accumulates under the gasket and has to be cleaned out periodically.
You may have noticed the plethora of washing machine cleaning products now available at the supermarket. They are aimed at this type of machine.
The maintenance involved is hardly worth the advantages of the machine. I would not recommend the purchase of a front loader over a top loader.

Horrible design, so stupid
Why has to be unique
12/8/2018
I have a pet that sheds a lot. When purchasing the washer the salesperson said this model was great for that because it had a filter that will help catch all the pet hair. It did a pretty good job until I started getting an error message letting me know that the washer is not draining correctly and the filter needs changed. The filter is in the front of the machine so no big deal right?
Well, come to find out there is no easy access panel to the filter. Looking at the instructions it appears I have to take off the top panel, control panel, and back panel to get to the front panel and replace the filter. And if I use the machine a couple of times to wash pretty bedding and such, after vacuuming off the hair first, them I will need to do that every six months or so based on my experience. Why is there not am easy access panel? I am considering just cutting off the bottom part of the front panel once I have it off so that I can easily change the filter as needed. Thinking this through as I go, maybe if I take it to somewhere that works with metal they can cut it so the edges are smooth?
So irritating that access to the washable filter is not designed in.

Got as a replacement for older washer
Cassie1989
11/5/2018
My electric company replaced my washing machine with a more energy efficient washing machine. It's barely 2 years later and the door latch broke. Meaning it won't work after two years unless I hire a repairman. Should have just stayed with my old washer, it probably had more than 2 years left!! It had already worked for 10! They definitely don't make appliances like they used to. Not built to last and now the electric company helps remove older quality machines....

I have had the Whirlpool duet washer and dryer for a while, and I am very satisfied. They accommodate large loads, get the clothes clean and are gentle on my clothes. My only con is that I can't throw something in after it starts. I have to stop the cycle and restart it if I want to add something in.

We bought our Whirlpool Duet in 2011...things are just not made to last these days. We have probably spent more $$ to fix it since then than it actually cost. Now we have to fix it again, and I cannot find any repair people in our immediate area that actually fix Whirlpools. Every place I call says to go to the Whirlpool website....frustrated and upset. I should not have to be contemplating buying a new washer 7 years into its life span....crazy!!!!

8/8/2017
We bought our new washer and dryer pair about a month ago. We have been very pleased with it! Even though nobody in the house other than my wife is allowed to start the machine, the whole family has noticed a HUGE difference in the cleanliness of our clothes. My wife likes the sound that lets her know when clothes are ready to be rotated. I enjoy saving money on the detergent, water and electricity.

The rubber seal failed
4/1/2017
I bought this washer 13 months ago. It has worked really well and been a great washer for our family of 5. UNTIL - last night after doing a clean washer cycle I noticed the floor was wet in front of the washer and opened the door to find a chunk of the rubber seal missing. We have always used the washing machine properly and have no idea what would have caused this. We have always used gentle detergent and have never put anything in the washer that could have caused this damage. It is really odd. I hope it can be repaired.

Nice washer, just wish it used more water.
3/18/2017
I've had this washer for almost a year now. I see this particular model has been discontinued. I bought it to replace my 10 year old Maytag Neptune front loader when it bit the dust. I was excited to save space with the stackable set.I gave this product 3 stars because, compared to my old washer it doesn't get the clothes as clean. I debated on giving it 4, because I think the main problem is, it's TOO energy efficient and just doesn't use quite enough water to get the job done. If it used about 1 to 1 1/2 gallons more water, I think it would make a huge difference. On my old Maytag, I almost always used the normal wash setting, which took about 45 minutes and the clothes came out clean and smelling fresh. Occasionally I would use the stain cycle, if it was something extremely dirty or greasy. With this new Whirlpool, the normal setting is also about 45 minutes but is really only good, for, clothes that aren't dirty at all. Like jeans and work clothes if you work in an office. Kids' clothes or anything that smells, forget it. You have to use the heavy duty cycle which takes about an hour and 18 minutes. So, I gave it 3 stars because compared to my old washer, it gets clothes less clean, in more time. Newer should be better, right? And the purpose of a washer is to clean the clothes. Now, that being said, the spin cycle is awesome. It gets the clothes so dry that they don't take very long to dry. My dryer always says it will take about 78 minutes. But it never does, maybe closer to 40, which is on par with my old Maytag. So for me, bottom line, I wish they would make these washers use just a little more water, as I believe it would save in the long run, from having to wash the same load twice to get them clean.

Excellent Choice So Far
2/8/2017
I have had this washer for 2 months now. I am an auto mechanic with really dirty, greasy uniforms. I am amazed at how clean this thing gets my uniforms. I am flabbergasted by how little water it uses. I can start a load of wash and get into the shower at the same time! I live in a mobile home and rain on the roof makes more noise than this washer. I just wanted something that would work to get my clothes clean without spending a fortune I have no need for 10,000 different settings and steam and all that stuff...being a single (again) middle aged male, I really would not know what to do with them if I had them.To the person fussing about the towels not being "Downy Soft", I can say I too had a similar issue. I found that if I run the "Extra Rinse" feature, this helps a bunch.Bottom line: Gets them VERY clean, does it quietly with very little water, and leaves money for my hobbies.

Problems with fabric softener dispensing
1/26/2017
I bought this machine May 2015. I love the washer and the dryer. The washer worked great at first but towels are not soft at all. The Downy dispenses and no problems with it running thru dispenser but my towels are rough. Has anyone had this issue? I had the machine checked out and no problem with any of dispenser and hoses but towels and blankets are not Downy soft like I want.

Not impressed, cannot wash towels.
1/12/2017
In the first few months I was impressed but then as time went on it didn't spin out all of the water form the clothes and they started coming out heavier. Had a service tech out here 2x and the machine would not go into high speed spin. Told me I was mixing towels with regular clothes and that wouldn't work. Well, how come it worked in the beginning then? All I can say is I am glad I purchased extra insurance to last me until 2021. I use the machine a few times per week and take out the soap dispenser and let it dry completely and I leave the door open in between washes and the clothes still stink every so often, especially the bath towels. This machine is OK for regualr clothes but when it comes to towels it doesn't cut the mustard. The bottom line is I would not recommend this machine.

11/21/2016
I've had this machine 8 months now and there are only 2 of us that use it 2-3 per week and I've noticed in the last 2-3 weeks the clothes have been coming out much wetter than normal. I looked in the guide under trouble shooting and I don't see anything that could be a problem. The drain hose has not moved deeper into the drain pipe, I use HE detergent, there are not clothes stuck to the side of the drum...etc. I'm going to call for a service request this afternoon. I have had sour smelling clothes and did use the afresh tablets with success to clean up the odor. I keep the door open in between loads but wonder why I still get the sour smelling clothes. I want to be impressed by this machine but not sure yet. Oh and one other thing, within the first week of using it I got an error code for no reason.
